Chazan Yossi Saunders is a freelance chazan, living in London, together with his wife Miriam, and their three daughters, Ayala, Shira and Elisheva. Yossi performs at Weddings, Bar/Bat Mitzvas and other special events such as hotel weekends and festival packages, as well as national and international concerts and special Shabbatot throughout the year. As well as performing across the UK, he has also sung in Israel, USA, Spain, Holland, Hungary and Poland.
Previously, Yossi served as Chazan at Bushey United synagogue, and as Chazan of the Beth Hamidrash Hagadol synagogue in Leeds. Born in London and raised in Manchester, Yossi developed a love for music from a you
ng age. Whilst in Israel, Yossi first studied voice production with Dani Hendrikson, of the Jerusalem Great Synagogue Choir. Upon returning to England, Yossi continued training with Tenor Antony Norton of the Royal Northern College of Music, and with Tenor Antony Roden. After getting married, he returned to Israel, and attended Tel Aviv Cantorial Institute. During his time there, Yossi worked closely with Cantor Naftali Herstik and Maestro Raymond Goldstein, on his nusach, chazanut, vocal production and wedding repertoire. Yossi also spent three years training on a weekly basis with Phil Wilcox of the BBC Singers whilst living in Leeds.
